Maybe the full game is better?ħ) Fighting demons is cooler than fighting Strogg. Doom 3 was at least mildly challenging, even though the challenge came in the form of cheap surprises. At least they added a lighting mechanism that isn't retarded.ĥ) Demo is too easy even on "general". Not much has changed here since Doom 3.Ĥ) The perennial darkness I can take or leave. Quake 4 has a slightly less useless blaster, but it has a more visceral kick to it.ģ) The techno-organ faux-industrial decor gets old really quick. Doom 3 had a machinegun that was fun to use and marginally effective but which never had enough ammo, Quake 4 has a machinegun that's accurate, reasonably powerful, immensely satisfying to fire, and best of all doesn't suffer from horrid ammo shortages. In quake 4 the shotgun sounds beefy and is useful outside of touching range. Doom 3 suffered from a weak sounding, unsatisfying shotgun with atrocious spread which was your fallback weapon 90% of the time because it was the only one with enough ammo to use constantly. Ok, I only have the demo to go by, so here are my impressions.ġ) The weapons so far are MUCH better than Doom 3. I don't get to play games very regularly so I don't have my finger on the pulse of the gaming scene - View image here: -) (This might be old news, Quake 4 probably came out a long time ago by now. It seems like all the visual effects and details and such are all coming at the price of fun gameplay - View image here:. I don't think it's that I don't like FPS's anymore, I think it's just that I don't like where FPS's seem to be going. I played it for 20 minutes and I was already tired of the environment. I feel like I'm fighting my way through a robot or something. The game is too visually dark also (not as much as Doom 3 though). It's like they're trying to make it more "real" or something with all the extra fluff, I don't know. The point behind the game is guns and killing monsters so lets can the boring "story" and military cliches and get on with shooting monsters already!! Badass goes on and on about the next objective.

Please don't trap me in the room while Lt. Seriously, I wish they'd quit with the huge pauses in the already watered down action so that some guy can tell me useless things that I'm not paying attention to anyway. I love the old ones like Doom, HalfLife, Duke Nukem 3D(!!!), and Quake, FarCry was ok and Halo were ok, but Doom 3 and Quake 4.
